Bual 1958

Grape Varieties: Bual
Bottling Year: 2006
Product Description: Cossart Gordon’s Vntage Bual 1958 is a single harvest Madeira. This wine was aged for 48 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, whereby the casks were gradually transferred from the top floors of the lodge, where it is naturally warmer, to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine was regularly racked and when it reached the desired stage of maturity it was bottled. Only 1500 bottles of this wine were released.
Specification: Alcohol: 20% ABV pH: 3.57 Residual Sugar: 105.5 g/l Total Acidity: 9.20 g/l tartaric acid
Tasting Notes: Deep chestnut colour with a golden rim. Complex and intense, characteristic Madeira bouquet of dried fruits, toffee, wood and vanilla with notes of tropical fruit and nuts. Medium sweet and smooth with a long and exuberant finish.
Press Comments:

“Red, foxy colour. Wonderfully rich and concentrated without any excessive astringence. Bonfire topnote on great concentration of sweetness and vivacity. Great hit of appetising healthy richness. A strange suggestion of Bandaid is probably not worth mentioning as it, oddly, does nothing to detract from the pleasure! It’ s delicious, amazingly fresh and very, very long.”
Purple Pages, Jancis Robinson, February 2003

“Intense aroma with loads of lemony vanilla, toasted almonds and walnut shell in a very fine and elegant ensemble. Very good acidity on the palate, dry, concentrated and with a long finish.”
